Dream Green Brings in the Win
A 71-year-old sassy grandmother glided into Lottery Headquarters this week to claim a very big prize. But, considering her laid-back manner you would have never thought she had just won $50,000 playing the Taxes-Paid Dream Green scratch-off.
The winner’s close friend and neighbor accompanied her to claim the prize. “I think I am more excited than she is,” said her friend. The fortunate player bought the ticket on Tuesday while purchasing some other Lottery games. She chose $25 worth of $5 tickets and took them all home to scratch. The winner was sitting at her computer desk when she began to scratch the tickets. When she got to the Dream Green ticket, a surprise was waiting. “When I scratched and saw the little hat and the word win, I had no idea it would be for $50,000,” she said. “I had to shoo my grandkids away because they wanted to know what was happening.”
The winner then called her neighbor, who plans trips for senior citizens to Atlantic City, to share the news. “She called and told me she wanted to go with us and then said, that’s okay, because she got her money anyway,” the friend laughed. “I had to see it to believe it, though.”
The former cook and cashier said she will use the winnings towards a new bedroom set and will save the rest. The winning ticket was purchased at Food Stop, located at 4900 Liberty Heights Avenue in Baltimore City.
