Martha Mason and family celebrate her big win.
Wins $100,000 Playing Red Line Bingo Tripler Scratch Game
Martha Mason of La Plata had asked for “any” $5 scratch-off ticket last week while at the store. Imagine her surprise when she received the Red Line Bingo Tripler scratch-off with “Extended Play.” At first she was a little disappointed with the cashier’s choice, preferring a less involved ticket, but she didn’t stay upset for long; her ticket was worth $100,000.
“I was sort of annoyed that he gave me the ticket,” Mason told Lottery officials. She was sharing her frustration with her daughter-in-law when she noticed a win on the bingo-style ticket. Martha passed the ticket to her lottery “partner” to cash in and began scratching a second game. “I glanced at my daughter-in-law a few seconds later and saw the look on her face,” she explained. The ticket which she had been frustrated with only minutes before was now the source of her joy.
Mason, 76, headed home excited to share the good news with family, friends and the rest of the neighborhood. Her four children, who accompanied her to Lottery Headquarters, were very happy to share the moment with their mother.
She plans to share her winnings with her family and continue playing scratch-offs, most likely at her new lucky store, Absher Liquors, 6605 Crain Highway in La Plata.
