A happy Christina Sowell from Dowell claims her Cash King scratch-off win.
Claims Top Prize on Cash King Scratch-Off
It isn’t often that Christina Sowell buys scratch-off tickets, her Lottery game of choice is typically Pick 3. On Friday however, she stopped into Southern Liquors and made her “once a year” purchase. “I had $2 in change,” said Christina. “So I decided to buy one of the Cash King scratch-offs.”
The 51-year-old chose the ticket because it was number eleven in the display and it was Veterans Day. She was also thinking about her deceased father and a dream her daughter had recently. “My daughter dreamt that my dad said ‘Stop worrying. Change is coming.’”
The change arrived shortly thereafter when Christina scratched her ticket while waiting in line at the Food Lion next door to the Lottery retailer. “I scratched and the first letter was K, which meant I had won $1,000,” said the mother-of-one. “I thought, ‘I’m rich.’”
Christina would sound discover she was ten times richer than she first imagined. “I finished scratching the ticket and went back and showed it to the clerks at the Lottery store,” said Christina. “Both women told me I’d won $10,000. Then they told me to sign the back of my ticket.” The stunned winner was left speechless. “I’ve been in a daze ever since,” she said.
The restaurant employee intends to use her winnings to help her daughter with school expenses and may use some towards the purchase of a car. She also plans to increase her “once-a-year” scratch-off play and looks forward to returning to Lottery Headquarters soon. The winning ticket was purchased at Southern Liquors, located at 13318 H G Truman Dr. in Solomons.
