Claims Top Prize on Baseball-themed Ticket

Kari Vannostrand - Double PlayKari Vannostrand very rarely plays Lottery games.  But, last week, on a whim, she decided to purchase three Double Play scratch-offs.  While in the store, Kari scratched the tickets, revealing one of the $50,000 top prizes.

The 22-year-old winner has shared the big news with some friends and family, including her mother, Kathie, who accompanied her to Lottery Headquarters.  “I’m very happy for Kari,” said her mom. “This could really change her life.”

It may not change her life, but it will change her wardrobe. Along with saving a portion of her winnings, Kari plans to indulge herself and purchase new shoes and a new backpack.  The winning ticket was purchased at Valley Exxon, located at 2343 W. Joppa Rd. in Lutherville.

Kari is the third player to win $50,000 with this baseball-themed scratch-off, leaving four top-prizes remaining.  The game also features a second-chance contest that partners the Lottery with the Orioles. The contest offers experiential prizes like a trip to see the O’s play at Fenway Park.  Players can also be chosen as the “contestant of the game,” and win $1,000 for each double play turned by the Orioles.  Entries can be submitted by visiting mdlottery.com/doubleplay.

I’m really a nervous wreck now…tonight’s MY NIGHT. Come on O’s…double them Braves’ up time after time after time!!! How about A RARE TRIPLE PLAY. I’m hoping for an 18 inning defensive struggle -scoreless with the O’s pushing over the winning run in the bottom of the 18th…after 10-12 double plays.

Ozzie: Good luck. Feel free to also come share your thoughts with us on Facebook.

FINALLY!!! It does happen. You can WIN. Had no success on the Raven’s scratchies (both years). Entered a ton of second chance yards. NO LUCK. But I have a second chance on the O’s scratchie..My day is July 1st. Bring on the double plays!

      Ozzie:
I thought that was you when I was updating the page. I was hoping to hear from you. Congratulations!

  • Earl

Why do I get this page when clicking on the winning numbers tab on the home page?

    • mdlottery

Earl: That is a good question. I will bring this to the attention of our developer and investigate into why. To alleviate the problem, try restarting your browser.

  • Deborah

How will you be notified if you win the double play?

    • mdlottery

Deborah: A lottery representative will contact you if you are a winner. You can also check the Double Play website here.

  • Sophie

You guys are just jealous. This stuff is totally random and she may be from Ellicot City, but she lives modestly in the city and scrapes by to pay her rent. This could really change her life so shut up and get over it!

  • DONNA

WE HARDLY EVER HAVE ANY WINS IN FREDERICK MD. WE PLAY AND PLAY AND PLAY AND WE GET A WIN OF 2.00. ALL THE WINNERS ARE IN BALTIMORE.THERE SHOULD BE EQUAL AMOUNTS OF WINNING TICKETS DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT MARYLAND.I PLAY SCRATCH OFFS AND NONE OF THEM ARE EVER BIG WINS.

    • mdlottery

Donna: Thanks for writing in. We get this comment a lot. People living in Baltimore believe all the winners are elsewhere and vice versa. Truth is the geographic locations of our winners are all random. There is no way to predict where the winners will be. However, research tells us that more winners come from areas of the State in which more people are playing. Please take a look at our winners stories. There you’ll see that we have winners from all over the State.

  • Charles

May be from Ellocott City, but this was a true accicdent. MD lottery has few winners from affluent neighborhoods! Majority of winners are from poorer neighborhoods!

What makes you think Ellicott City is rich? I live in EC and the high rent is driving me to the poor house. There are a lot of people living in the poor house here with me in EC.
