Frederick Man’s Last-Minute Decision Pays OffThursday, November 1st, 2012
Wins $100,000 Top Prize on Diamonds Scratch-off
On a whim, a Frederick County man purchased a single scratch-off ticket last Friday. After leaving work late, he picked up his mother and drove her to purchase her weekly Lottery tickets. Instead of waiting in the car, the man decided to accompany her into the store and bought a single Diamonds scratch-off. The ticket turned out to be a $100,000 winner.
The lucky winner mentioned that he hadn’t seen the Diamonds scratch-off before and made a quick impulse buy. “The ticket seemed newer and I figured it might be fun to play, so I bought it without really thinking,” he said shrugging.
“I don’t usually play scratch-offs, typically I leave that to my mom,” said the winner. “She plays the Pick 3, Pick 4 and different scratch-offs every week. I just drive her to the store and wait in the car.” His decision to go in with her and purchase a ticket definitely paid off. “This is our win,” the man said in reference to his mother. “If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have gone in and bought a scratch-off.”
The humble winner plans to use his prize winnings to help support his family and treat his mother to a nice dinner. “I promised my mom we would go out for Chinese next week,” he said. “I’ve also promised that we would have our best Thanksgiving ever.” The winning ticket was purchased at Hillcrest Beer, Wine & Spirits on 1090 W. Patrick St. in Frederick. Three top prizes remain on the Diamonds scratch-off.
