Military mom wins Aces High top prize

Aces HighA Frederick woman and her husband were the Maryland Lottery’s first claimants at Lottery headquarters this week after holding on to a winning $50,000 scratch-off since Thursday.  The lucky winner breathed a sigh of relief when she was handed her completed claims paperwork early Monday morning and said, “Ok, I’m starting to believe it now.”

The 36 year-old, who chose to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials that she rarely buys tickets and decided to purchase one on a whim last week.  “I was at the store and had an extra five dollar bill in my pocket,” she said.  “I looked at the ticket display and the Aces High scratch off stood out to me.”  After purchasing her ticket, the winner scratched her ticket in the car.  The mother-of-two added, “I fully intended to throw the ticket away right after I scratched it, but I saw that I had won and sat there stunned for a few minutes.”

While they don’t have big plans for their new found money, the US military official and her graduate student husband plan to add a deck on to their new home and put money into savings.  They are also discussing the amount of money they plan to tithe to their church.

The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11 at 19235 Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg.
