Racetrax Trifecta Win Comes with Big Payoff

For no particular reason, an 87-year-old Glen Burnie woman called her son and told him to buy her a Maryland Lottery Racetrax ticket and play the numbers 10, 11, 12. Hours later, the Anne Arundel County resident learned that her $20 ticket was worth $30,734.

Her accommodating son and her out-of-the-blue decision to play those three consecutive numbers were a winning combination.

“I was on my way to work when she called and asked for a ticket,” said her son, who owns a small business.

Dutifully, he bought her a ticket before bringing it home to her. The first thing she asked was whether he had checked the ticket to see if it had won. “All I said was, ‘All right, all right, I’ll go back,’ ” her son said, laughing.

After scanning the ticket, he returned home to share the good news. They celebrated together before piling into the car and driving straight down to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The grandmother of 15 is still processing the news of her win and has decided to wait to spend her winnings. “I didn’t know I was going to hit, so I don’t have any of this money spent in my head already.”

For now, she will return to babysitting and spoiling her grandchildren. Her son bought the winning ticket at Luckies Market at 7713 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. in Glen Burnie.
