Landover Couple Win Cruise for Cash Scratch-Off Vacation

Friday, January 28th, 2011

A lucky Landover couple, who call themselves “cruisers,” specifically purchased a Cruise for Cash scratch-off in hopes of winning an instant cruise vacation prize. Their wishes came true as they scratched their way to a seven-night dream vacation.  Prior to winning the prize, the couple planned a cruise in celebration of their anniversary.  Now, they will be able to celebrate twice.  Their previously scheduled cruise is in March and they plan to take this cruise at the end of the summer.  The winning ticket was purchased at Landover Hills Exxon, located at 6579 Annapolis Road in Landover.

Partnering with Royal Carribean International, the Maryland Lottery launched Cruise for Cash on January 10, 2011. The $5 scratch-off is the first of its kind for the Maryland Lottery and features seven $50,000 instant top prizes, as well as 31 instant seven-night cruise vacations for two, departing from Florida with a premium ocean view balcony stateroom; first class round-trip airfare- for-two to Florida; deluxe premium hotel accommodations for two for the night prior to cruise departure, $1,000 onboard credit and $500 spending money.

Cruise for Cash also features a second-chance contest with six more chances to win a nine-night cruise vacation for two, departing from the Port of Baltimore. Second-chance cruise prizes include a premium ocean view balcony stateroom on any one of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships departing from the Port of Baltimore and a $1,000 onboard credit. Players enter the second-chance contest by mailing in a non-winning Cruise for Cash scratch-off to the address on the back of the ticket or by going online at mdlottery.com/cruise. Players who enter online MUST keep their original Cruise for Cash ticket to present for validation.

I understand that the tickets are randomly sent all over the state but 90% of the top prize winning tickets have been baught on the western shore over here on the eastern shore.we hardly win anything I just dont like the odds Pp

  • rb

i get a little annoyed with folks who whine cause the did not win…..

    gambling…. gambling….gambling…..gambling
    gambling…. gambling….gambling…..gambling

    get the drift….

  • Tim

How many entries were there for the second chance cruise drawing and when will you post the winning number for the first drawing?

    • mdlottery

Tim: We had 41,436; 33,247 Internet entries and 8,189 mail-in entries. We will post the winner as soon as their entry has been validated.

  • Disappointed

I am very disappointed with the cruise for cash game. I often purchase 4 tickets in a row with none of the 4 being a winner of anything. I think this will be my last time playing the scratch offs.

    • mdlottery

Disappointed: Winning tickets are distributed randomly throughout an entire game. If the average chance of winning a prize is 1:5, this does not mean there is an automatic winner within every five consecutive tickets. There is no pattern as to where winning tickets will occur.

      duh…. gambling….taking a chance….

The cruise is NOT such a HOT prospective win for some of us…who have experienced sea-sickness previously & who can’t swim…though gamblers WE are. How about trips to Vegas, Atlantic City, Monte Carlo or other gambling hotspots…maybe even FUN MONEY to use at Maryland’s newest slots!!! We’ve waited many years since slots were banned in Maryland. Now that they’re back… how about some exciting scratch-offs with those type rewards???

    • mdlottery

Ozzie: We understand that not every scratch-off is going to appeal to all of our players. That’s why we offer around 50 different scratch-offs at any given time with all different prizes to appeal to as many potential players as possible. More licensed games are certainly possible as we are constantly reviewing our product plan.

  • any of those winninng tickets in dundalk?????????????

    • mdlottery

Jean: Feel free to use our new “search” feature to find our latest winners stories from Dundalk.

  • V Miller

I like the New website, it’s more informative.

    • mdlottery

      V Miller: Thank you.

  • V Miller

I live in the Prince Georges, County area
and I never really hear about anyone really winning much here. I know you must play to win, And I have been playing. I need a win.
I might start playing the Virginia Lottery they have more winners.

    • mdlottery

V Miller: The geographic locations of our winners are random. There is no way to predict where the winners will be. However, research tells us that more winners come from areas of the State in which more people are playing. Take a look at our winners stories. There you’ll see that we have winners from all over the State.

  • Oh Darn

Oh wonderful…Landover, MD couple wins cruise. I purchase my tickets; several a day from this same store, what do you think the chances are that another winner will be chosen from this store? And don’t give me that “it’s a random drawing thing either!” Might as well hold onto my money in the future! Thrilled for the winners, bumbed that I don’t stand a chance of winning now…

    • mdlottery

Oh Darn: The geographic locations of our winners are random. There is no way to predict where the winners will be. With 31 instant cruise vacation prizes (27 remaining) and 6 second chance opportunities we have no way of knowing where the next winner will pop-up.

I know exactly what you are saying. I’ve email the Maryland Lottery several time regarding them deceiving the public with their scratch-offs. I know it’s called gambling, but this is a rip-off. I thought is was a law against these sought of things. I guess it doesn’t apply to them.

  • beverly anne mason

I was there at Martins West on Dogwood Rd. Jan. 30,2011 for the Cruise for Cash party..I played the roulette wheel and it stopped on “Cruise for Cash” I thought I hit the jackpot only to find that I received a $1.00 scratch off and a key chain…how deceiving this play is to the public when all all the other plays were clearing identified such as if the wheel stopped on a bag, you would get a bag; if it stopped on a pen, you will get a pen; if it stopped on a calendar, you will get a calendar and so on..I should had received something of equal value when my spin stopped on a cruise for cash prize.

  • james s porter

    i need a cruise today!

  • Cum Shooter

Nice Win…I’m sure they would have rather won the $50,000 though.
