Second-Tier $250,000 Mega Millions Ticket Sold at Lottery Retailer

It was just about six months ago that Wine World, located at 406-A Constant Friendship Blvd. in Abingdon, sold a winning $108.8 million Powerball ticket. It was the first Powerball jackpot win since the game’s arrival in Maryland in January 2010. Yesterday, lady luck arrived yet again at this popular Lottery retailer with someone matching every number except the Mega Ball to win Mega Millions’ second-tier prize of $250,000.

Since no winning jackpot ticket was sold, Friday night’s drawing will be worth $61 million, with a cash option of $44.8 million. Last night’s winning numbers were 03 05 10 26 27 and Mega Ball 27. In 2011, Maryland had 17 second-tier Mega Millions winners, including two $1 million wins as a result of adding the Megaplier option. This is the first second-tier Mega Millions ticket sold in 2012.

aaron: Keep in mind that winning numbers have always been – and will continue to be – purely the luck of the draw and a matter of random chance. Numbers drawn for each of the Lottery’s daily drawing games are arbitrary. Good luck.

Dhicks1962: Nothing about our games is rigged. Winning numbers have always been – and will continue to be – purely the luck of the draw and a matter of random chance. Numbers drawn for each of the Lottery’s daily drawing games are arbitrary. Every time a ball is drawn, it is an independent and unique event, completely unaffected by what ball was drawn seconds, hours, days, or weeks earlier. In addition, each ball drawn has the same exact chance of being drawn as any other ball in the machine, at any point in time.

Security cameras document all that happens in the studio – 24 hours a day. To further guarantee the integrity of our drawings independent auditing firms perform unannounced visits, as do officials from the Lottery’s Security Division.

Apparently Wine World is a magnet for LUCKY folks.

yeah why don’t any big winners come from northeast Baltimore, like Harford Rd area or Carney I believe it is all fixed. If you don
t have a car to get to those far out places you are just contributing to the jackpot for other people to win outside your area. SMH!!! I quit!#$%^%^

Dpakville: Thanks for writing in. We get this comment a lot. People living in Baltimore believe all the winners are elsewhere and vice versa. Truth is the geographic locations of our winners are all random. There is no way to predict where the winners will be. However, research tells us that more winners come from areas of the State in which more people are playing. Please take a look at our winners stories. There you’ll see that we have winners from all over the State.

I agree,Plus 8,It is strange how some locations never have a winner, although thousand of people purchase tickets in the lower income areas. Hell, even upper marlboro, fort washington, clinton, bowie areas are no big winners of the power ball!!!!! What a scan for poor and middle class working folks!!!! Shame On You Maryland Lottery!!!!!!

Crap. that’s an hour away. Guess I’ll have to make my local 7-11 the go-to destination.  Lottery headquarters, be expecting me because I’ll be winning a jackpot soon!
