Lottery Expands Bet Options in Racetrax Game

Adds Superfecta Bets, Exacta Box & Wheel Options

The Maryland Lottery is betting Racetrax fans and novice players will cheer the changes coming to the game on Monday, April 21, to give players more betting options and a play experience more like that at an actual racetrack.

This computer-animated Lottery game offers 3-D graphic animations complete with the sound of snorting horses, the call to the post and the thunder of hooves as the horses race around the track. Each race has 12 horses and lasts up to one minute, with up to five minutes between races.

“Our Racetrax players asked for these changes and we are happy to give them an improved experience,” said Mike Hofferbert, Lottery director of product development. The Lottery began offering Racetrax in 2006.

The latest game changes are extensive and add six bet types: Exacta, Exacta Box, Exacta Wheel, Superfecta, Superfecta Box and Superfecta Wheel. It also cuts the cost of bets for two Trifecta options to 50 cents for the Trifecta Box option and a Trifecta Wheel bet option.

Confused about the bet types? Player information sheets are available at Lottery retailers and will be available online to explain the different type of bets, how to play the game and the cost of each type of bets. Players can still pick their own horses or let the terminal quick pick the numbers.

The revised game will offer more realistic images of horses, riders and the track. When horses cross the finish line in the revised game, players will see the images of the top four, rather than the top three horses freeze as they cross the line. Improved statistical screens and detailed payout information round out the changes. The bonus wheel will still spin before each race to give players who add the Racetrax Bonus option a chance to multiply their winnings by the number shown.

It is currently not in the works, but we can pass your comment to the appropriate department for consideration!

The last 20 games do show up on the monitor but are presented differently that before. As for the arrows when searching for games online, our IT department is currently working on bringing that feature back.

We understand your frustration with this, but please know that we have visited Lottery retailers all over Maryland to educate them on the new Racetrax bet types. Could you provide us the names/locations of the retailers that you visited? We would be happy to revisit these locations and explain the new bet types to them once more.

I have sent several emails via the “General Information” section asking when the “next” button on Racetrax will be working. As of today, you can only go to the first ten races. After that, you have to go back to home and put in the next set of numbers. I really am frustrated by this. Is there any way this can be fixed?
    Thank you.

    Dear Mdlottery,
Do you accept all comments as long as they are written respectfully and without any kind of offensive language? If so, what happen to my comment about taking the last 20 races off of the Racetrax? it was here waiting for your approval but apparently you did not approve because it is no longer here. I expressed my frustration with the new format and betting and thought it was a disservice for the lottery to remove the winners of the previous 20 races. This page showing the history is very valuable to Racetrax players. it at least gives them some hope and feeling like they are betting a the real track as you are trying to portray with how bets can be made now. But, without any history how can one feel like they are making a reasonable bet that has chance to win? Just visit some stores and ask the players and they will tell you. Frustration with this new layout is having some folk talking about quitting which includes me.

      Hello again-
Your comment was just now approved and addressed. Please refer back to your previous comment. Thank you again for taking the time to share your comments with us, we greatly value them.

The new RaceTrax format gives players an opportunity to win a lot of money without having to hit the 10-11-12. However, to take away the screen that use to show the previous winners is a disservice. It is like the Mdlottery wants to take away any keys to winning money. Players want to see the last 20 winners like before. Most of the folks I play with are frustrated by this and talk about quitting the game, especially not being able to win any money. I may quit this game too. We were all excited about it but it took only one day of playing the new game to start to realize that maybe it is not worth it. Please put the previous winners back on the screen. Thank you

Your comments have been forwarded to the appropriate department. If I receive any feedback I will be sure to update you. Have a great day.

Ridgely Liquors in Lutherville, MD had few playslips and no literature on the change, how to play, or how much bets cost. Plus the time in between races are to short andbthe screen that shows previous winners of races never seemed to appear.

    • mdlottery

We apologize for the inconvenience and will make sure to revisit this location to make sure they are fully prepared for the Racetrax changes. In the mean time, you can read over the new bet types here.

  • mdlottery

    Hi Tamara –

Could you please let us know which retailer you visited? We will be glad to revisit the location, explain the new bet types and stock the store with more playslips.

    • Tamara Thomas

Thanks for responding. I never look at the name of the retailers. I just know the locations. Give me a day 2 get you the correct name of them. Ive been to 3 retailers so far who are clueless.
