Mega Millions Jackpot Rolls to Estimated $400 MillionMonday, March 17th, 2014
Cash option for Tuesday night’s jackpot is $224.8 million
The Mega Millions jackpot is on another big roll! The jackpot jumped to $400 million for the Tuesday, March 18 drawing, marking only the sixth time in the history of U.S. lotteries that a jackpot has reached that level or higher.
No one playing the multistate lottery on Friday, March 14 selected the winning numbers of 07-20-40-54-69 with Mega Ball 12. Five players who matched five numbers for a $1 million prize hailed from Arkansas, Florida, Ohio (two players) and Virginia. Three of these five winners added the Megaplier option for an additional $1 per play. Their prize tripled because the Megaplier number was 3.
Maryland did have three third-tier winners of $5,000 each and a total of 168,372 winners at all payout levels from $5,000 to $1 in the Friday drawing.
The cash option for Tuesday’s drawing is $224.8 million. This jackpot started its roll on Jan. 7 from a base of $15 million. So far this year, Maryland has welcomed two of three $1 million second-tier winners and is still looking for the lucky holder of a winning ticket in the Feb. 25 drawing. The lucky player bought that ticket at the 7-Eleven in Essex.
Sales of the $1 Mega Millions tickets will continue until 10:45 p.m. Tuesday at Maryland Lottery retailers. Players can increase their winnings by investing a second $1 to add Megaplier to their ticket to multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x.
