Reaches $400 Million for Dec. 13 Drawing

Forget superstition! Mega Millions players are hoping Friday the 13th is their lucky day as they line up to buy tickets for the Dec. 13 drawing for the second highest jackpot in the game’s history.

The Mega Millions jackpot rolled to $400 million on Tuesday, when no one matched the winning numbers: 5-12–22-41-65 and Mega ball 13. The cash option for Friday’s jackpot is a cool $216 million. Five players in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Ohio matched five numbers Tuesday night to win $1 million. This multistate game is sold in 45 jurisdictions.

This jackpot, which began its roll on Oct. 4, is second only to the Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million won in March 2012. Maryland’s two Mega Millions jackpot wins in 2013 featured an Anne Arundel County man who claimed a $189 million jackpot in October and a Mt. Airy couple who won $26 million in February. Marylanders have scored 16 second-tier wins in 2013.

Sales of the $1 tickets will continue until 10:45 p.m. Friday. Players can increase their winnings by investing a second $1 to add Megaplier to their ticket to multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x. Also, tickets with Megaplier will print with a Ravens logo and qualify for a second-chance contest. Enter those non-winning tickets into drawings for a chance to win great prizes like Ravens season tickets for 20 years. See for details.

Mega Millions drawings are televised on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 11:22 p.m. on WBAL-TV 11. Players can view the winning numbers right here at or get winning numbers sent to their smart phone. Simply download the free MD Lottery app and sign up for winning number alerts.
