Need for Change Brings Change of Fortune for Silver Spring ManWednesday, January 5th, 2011
Wins $30,000 Top Prize on Blackout Bingo Scratch-off
Just a couple days before Christmas with a $100 bill in his pocket, a Silver Spring man decided to buy a few Maryland Lottery scratch-offs in order to get change. The need to break that big bill resulted in a big win – the $30,000 top prize on the Blackout Bingo scratch-off.
The 47-year-old, who is an avid Lottery player, scratched his winning ticket shortly after its purchase. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” he said. “I got real nervous.”
The single man has only revealed his good fortune to a single person — a co-worker who accompanied him to Lottery Headquarters to claim his prize. His plans for the money include buying a new car and saving some as well. The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11 on 9254 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring.
