Claims $50,000 Top Prize on Deluxe Cash Crossword Ticket

147-Deluxe-Cash-Crossword-ITVM_P1_purpleA Baltimore man who loves playing the Maryland Lottery’s crossword and bingo scratch-offs just couldn’t resist buying the new Deluxe Cash Crossword ticket that launched April 28.

Good thing, too, because the one $5 scratch-off he bought turned into a $50,000 top-prize winner!

The 21-year-old, who buys scratch-offs at a variety of Baltimore city retailers, selected Global Liquors because of its proximity to his nephew’s barbershop. While the haircut took place one recent Friday, the young uncle entered the nearby store at 4332 Erdman Ave.

“I just got the one ticket,” he said. While in the store, the father of one “played it blind,” scratching off just enough of the ticket to reveal the code so he could scan it to see if he won a prize. When the scanner read, “Cash at Lottery,” our winner quietly hurried out of the store to collect his nephew and get home to hide the ticket. The $50,000 winning ticket remained in a safe place all weekend until he could get to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and claim the prize.

Currently unemployed, our winner is looking for work to support his wife and 4-month-old son and said they will both benefit from his good fortune. “I’m going to take care of my family,” he said.

His wife and son joined him at Lottery headquarters, as did his mom, who introduced him to scratch-offs. Her top win to date is $500, she said. “This has never happened to me before,” the happy winner said, smiling. “It’s a miracle, just a miracle.”
