UPDATE: May 17, 2013
Highest Powerball Jackpot in Game’s History
It’s time to get those tickets, Marylanders – the Powerball jackpot has been raised yet again and this time it’s a record-breaker. Nationwide sales pushed Saturday night’s jackpot from $550 million to a record-breaking $600 million. Along with becoming the largest Powerball jackpot ever, it’s also the second-largest jackpot in United States history. The cash option is now $376.9 million.
The largest multi-state jackpot in U.S. history was the Mega Millions $656 million jackpot in March 2012, which produced three winning tickets. One of the winning tickets was claimed by three Maryland public school employees, who took home a $218.6 million portion of the record-breaking prize.
In addition to the ballooning Powerball jackpot, another multi-state jackpot game has also been on a roll. Tonight’s Mega Millions drawing is worth $190 million.
