Next Drawing Wednesday, Aug. 7

Strong nationwide sales pushed the Powerball jackpot to $400 million for the upcoming drawing on Wednesday, Aug. 7, with a cash option of $230.3 million. The jackpot leaped by $100 million from Saturday‘s drawing, which saw no big winner.

Two states – Florida and Texas – sold $2 million winning tickets and five states – California, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Washington — sold $1 million winning tickets.

This is the third largest Powerball jackpot in history and the fourth largest overall jackpot in history. The top two Powerball jackpots reached $590.5 million on May 18, 2013 and $587.5 million on Nov. 28, 2012.

The largest multistate jackpot in U.S. history was the Mega Millions $656 million jackpot in March 2012, which produced three winning tickets. One of the winning tickets was claimed by three Maryland public school employees, who took home a $218.6 million portion of the record-breaking prize.
