St. Mary’s County Man Wins $250,000 Mega Millions Second-Tier PrizeFriday, May 11th, 2012
“I think I am going to set it aside and wait to see the best way to use it,” said the St. Mary’s County resident, referring to his $250,000 Mega Millions win. The 41-year-old matched every number except the Mega Ball in May 8th’s drawing to take home the second-tier prize.
The government employee plays Mega Millions occasionally and bought the ticket while running an errand. “I just used the $4 in change I received to buy tickets,” said the winner.
The next day, while on the computer, it occurred to him to check his tickets. “It was a second thought,” he said. “I was looking at the weather, when I remembered. After checking and re-checking the numbers, I knew I had won something big, but it still was a bit confusing.”
The winner shared the news of his win with only one person and plans to tell no one else. “I have to be practical,” he said. “It’s a nice amount of money, but not life changing.” The ticket was purchased at Stop N’ Shop located at 21036 Great Mills Rd. in Lexington Park. The retailer will receive $1000 commission for selling the ticket. There are still three unclaimed $250,000 second-tier Mega Millions tickets from recent drawings.
