Widow nails appointment for $50,000

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Gimme 5A woman very comely and quiet came in to Lottery Headquarters to claim her top prize of $50,000 from the scratch-off Gimme 5. The cool as a cucumber first time winner said she “just wants to pay off some bills with her winnings.”

The 78 year old woman from Baltimore went to her regular nail appointment on Friday and after her nails where done she stopped and pick up several scratch-offs. Once this frequent player realized she hit the $50,000, she quietly just put the winning ticket in her purse and went home and told her daughter and son-in-law, but also told them not to tell anyone.

The Widow winner of eight kids, nine grand kids and four great grand kids, she just simply celebrated peacefully with just a few drinks at home that night, not telling any neighbors of her winnings.

The big winner says she will still continue to play the scratch-off. The winning ticket was purchased at JD Tobacco T-1 located at 4574 Edmondson Ave. Baltimore.

yolonda: Winning numbers have always been – and will continue to be – purely the luck of the draw and a matter of random chance. Numbers drawn for each of the Lottery’s daily drawing games are arbitrary. Every time a ball is drawn, it is an independent and unique event, completely unaffected by what ball was drawn seconds, hours, days, or weeks earlier. In addition, each ball drawn has the same exact chance of being drawn as any other ball in the machine, at any point in time.

If you haven’t already, feel free to check out the numbers search. Here you can get a historical perspective on what and when numbers have been drawn.

Callie: Thanks for writing in. We get this comment a lot. People living in Baltimore believe all the winners are elsewhere and vice versa. Truth is the geographic locations of our winners are all random. There is no way to predict where the winners will be. However, research tells us that more winners come from areas of the State in which more people are playing. Please take a look at our winners stories. There you’ll see that we have winners from all over the State.
