Cecil County man wins $100,000
After a hard day of work as a builder, Eliuver Lopez Galvez of Elkton likes to relax with one of his favorite pastimes – playing Maryland Lottery scratch-offs. His fondness for instant ticket games turned into a $100,000 payday when the 30-year-old discovered the top prize on a $100 Grand scratch-off.
It was three weeks ago that Eliuver stopped in at the Food Mart in Elkton to fill up his gas tank and found his lucky scratch-off. Though the $100 Grand game arrived at Lottery retailers in September, he still saw it as a new game.
“I play one specific game for a while, sometimes a long while, to see if I can get a big winner,” he said. “I stick with it until I do or until I get bored with it.” As luck would have it, just a day earlier Eliuver had decided to change games. Enter the $10 $100 Grand scratch-off.
“I saw it there in the display and noticed the $100,000 top prize,” said the husband and father. “That big prize is why I picked it.” Hiding beneath the only number that matched the game’s winning numbers was the $100,000 prize. “I was very happy, of course. I just kept thanking God.”
Eliuver has spent recent weeks consulting the people he trusts most in his life and those with experience handling large sums of money about his windfall. He is safeguarding his winnings to take full advantage of what his Lottery luck can do for his family.
The $100 Grand game is still packed with big prizes. Players can search for four more unclaimed $100,000 top prizes, five $20,000 second-tier winners and thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $10,000.
The lucky Cecil County retailer is also a winner. Food Mart at Elkton located at 2249 East Old Philadelphia Road earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off.
