Western Maryland woman finds lucky instant ticket at grocery
A Hagerstown woman who typically takes the color of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs into consideration when deciding which game to buy was lucky she didn’t resist the vivid $1,000 Frenzy game. The 54-year-old won the game’s $100,000 top prize!
The government employee’s journey to the Lottery Winner’s Circle began with an errand for her pet.
“We had stopped at the Shop ‘n Save to buy some dog food for our new puppy,” said the Washington County resident. “I saw the colorful ticket and just had to have it! My husband does not like to gamble so I usually do not scratch them off when he is around.”
She waited a few days until he was at work to scratch off the colorful $10 instant ticket.
“Once I scratched off the top of the box to reveal the numbers and I saw the money bag symbol appear, I knew I had won but I did not know the amount,” she said. “As I began to reveal the amount, I could not believe my eyes!”
Her next step was to call her husband. “I asked him if he could sit down before I told him the news,” she said. “He did not believe it so I drove to his job site to show him my lucky ticket. After that, I headed straight to Lottery headquarters to claim my prize.”
The happy Lottery player plans to put her winnings in the bank for future use.
The Shop ‘n Save is also a winner. The lucky retailer located at 17718 Virginia Avenue in Hagerstown will receive a bonus of $1,000 from the Lottery for selling the first top-prize scratch-off in the game. There are still plenty of prizes available in the $1,000 Frenzy game, which is a member of the Frenzy family of scratch-offs. Get caught in the frenzy and check out the $1 $50 Frenzy, $2 $100 Frenzy and $5 $500 Frenzy instant tickets!
