Allegany County resident finds Lottery luck playing $250,000 Jackpot game
A longtime Maryland Lottery scratch-off player who just enjoyed his first $10,000 win is dreaming of the day he can return to Lottery headquarters to claim an even bigger prize.
The Allegany County “dreamer” purchased his lucky $250,000 Jackpot scratch-off when he visited One Stop Liquor Store located at 16115 McMullen Highway in Cumberland. He first tried his luck with three scratch-offs remaining in an instant ticket crossword game but none yielded a top prize. “I won like $50,” he said.
The 59-year-old customer service employee reinvested those winnings into the purchase of two more scratch-offs – one being the lucky $10 $250,000 Jackpot instant ticket.
“I scratched off the little box,” he said, referring to the prize check code on the instant ticket. Using the store ticket checker to scan the code, the elated player saw a message directing him to claim his prize at Lottery headquarters. The happy man knew he had won a prize of $10,000 to $250,000.
He then scratched off the instant ticket to determine the amount of his prize. The loyal player is no stranger to winning, having cashed many winning scratch-offs in the $500 to $1,000 range. He plays scratch-offs and Pick 3, Multi-Match and Bonus Match 5. Also a My Lottery Rewards member, the Western Maryland man has won several of the Lottery’s second-chance contests and claimed prizes of cash and electronic equipment over the years.
He plans to pay off bills with this prize and keep enjoying his Lottery hobby. The $250,000 Jackpot game has three unclaimed $250,000 top prizes and 13 more $10,000 prizes, in addition to thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
