$100,000 Scratch-off Win Marks Third 2021 Milestone

Brenda Harris of Temple Hills is planning several getaways to enjoy her $100,000 top-prize win on the $100,000 Crossword 4th Edition scratch-off.

Temple Hills grandma claims top prize on $100,000 Crossword game

A Prince George’s County scratch-off player has quite a few reasons to celebrate this year. Brenda Harris recently enjoyed her 70th birthday, will mark her 50th wedding anniversary in December and, on June 22, won a $100,000 top prize on the $100,000 Crossword 4th Edition game. What a great year!

The retired NASA employee still enjoys working and has a part-time gig at Nationals Park. She was homeward bound when she made her lucky Lottery purchase at Marlow Winghouse & Sports Grill in Temple Hills. Brenda’s favorite scratch-off games are the crossword and bingo varieties. She purchased three $100,000 Crossword scratch-offs and two bingo instant tickets.

“Some people don’t like them, but I do,” she said. “I like that you can take your time to scratch them.”

And, that’s just what Brenda did when she got home. The grandmother of five sat down at the table and began scratching her games with her husband by her side.

“I scratched off nine words and thought, ‘Okay, it’s $10,000,’” said the Temple Hills resident. “But then, I was like, ‘Oh no, it’s 10 words!’” Ten words meant she had a $100,000 winning scratch-off in hand!

The winner showed her husband, who in the past has said to not show him anything unless it’s big money. Well, Brenda sure did have something to show him this time!

The mother of two grown children put her winning instant ticket on the dresser and arranged to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. She also shared the news with her kids, who were very excited for her.

Brenda told Lottery officials that her prize is like a gift for her milestone birthday and her upcoming 50th wedding anniversary. She had already planned a trip with her husband to celebrate and will use some of the prize money for that vacation. She also plans to use some funds for a birthday vacation with some girlfriends who also turned 70 this year. The remainder of the prize will go into the bank to save for emergencies.

“This has truly been a blessing,” Brenda said.

Also happy to pass along Lottery luck is the retailer. Marlow Winghouse & Sports Grill located at 4147 Branch Avenue in Temple Hills will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off game.
