$18,300 Racetrax Win Sends ‘Trifecta Tommy’ to the Bank

Claims largest prize ever on Trifecta Box bet

A lucky Maryland Lottery player happily deposited his largest prize ever into his bank account – an $18,300 win on a Racetrax Trifecta Box bet.

“Trifecta Tommy” of Parkville met his girlfriend for lunch and then they parted ways for the afternoon. She returned to work and he went to J Convenience in Parkville to enjoy some Lottery fun and games. The HVAC installation worker is on medical leave and enjoys passing the time playing Racetrax and scratch-offs.

Right away, he won $25 on the new $5 Green Doubler instant ticket that went on sale May 23. Tommy also placed a $6 Racetrax Trifecta Box bet on the 8, 11 and 12 horses. The 40-year-old typically plays combinations of the numbers 1, 2 and 3, which led to numerous Lottery wins including $300 on Pick 3.

When his Racetrax horses crossed the finished line for a win, the loyal player couldn’t believe it and turned to the store clerk.

“I looked at the guy and I said, ‘Does this mean I won $18,000?’” His win confirmed, Tommy put the ticket in his pocket and drove to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize.

“I left there and came right here,” he said. “My hands were shaking all the way.”

The happy player put his prize in the bank and will use some of it to pay bills. He also plans to keep playing his lucky numbers to see if Lottery luck will deliver an even bigger prize. The Baltimore County retailer, which he visits a few times a week, will receive a bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth at least $10,000. J Convenience, located at 8765 Satyr Hill Road in Parkville, earned a $183 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize value.
