Excitement builds en route to July 4 drawing for $400,000
The $2 Million VaxCash Promotion has reached its halfway point. So far, 21 Maryland residents who have received COVID-19 vaccinations have each won $40,000, and 19 more $40,000 winners will be drawn — one per day through July 3. Then, on the Fourth of July – the final day of the VaxCash Promotion – one lucky vaccinated Marylander will celebrate the day by winning a $400,000 prize.
The VaxCash Promotion, announced by Governor Larry Hogan on May 20, is a collaboration of the Maryland Lottery and the Maryland Department of Health (MDH), aimed at incentivizing those Marylanders who have not yet received the COVID-19 vaccination – and rewarding those who have. All Maryland residents 18 and older who have received a COVID-19 shot in Maryland at any time are automatically entered into daily drawings, which began on May 25.
“This vaccine lottery has worked exactly as we hoped it would,” said Governor Hogan. “The most rewarding part for me has been hearing the stories of some of our winners, from a grocery store worker and a school janitor to a COVID-19 survivor. There are still weeks of drawings left–including the big grand prize–so if you haven’t had a chance to get vaccinated yet, now is a great time.”
All VaxCash prizes are paid from the Maryland Lottery’s marketing fund. Winners are permitted to remain anonymous, but each day, the Lottery publishes the winner’s location. Here is a list of winner locations through the first 21 drawings, with names listed for those who consented to publicity.
