A trip to the beach will hopefully leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed, unfortunately for one Middle River couple it also left them way short on cash. “We came back broke,” said the 44-year-old winner, who was accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by his wife.
Good natured about their money woes, the couple laughingly recounted cashing in two Reese’s scratch-off tickets to buy some gas. “I had two $3 winners,” said the wife. “I went to get gas and found another $10 in my pocket, so I bought five more Reese’s tickets.” Those tickets produced another $10 in winnings which were promptly used to buy five more Reese’s scratch-offs. The winning streak culminated in the twosome’s taking home the top prize on the Reese’s scratch-off..
The 42-year-old-mother-of-four was downstairs in their home when she scratched the ticket and discovered their good fortune. “I ran up and told him,” she said. “I just hugged her,” he added. The happy pair intends to use their winnings to pay off debt and perhaps go out to dinner. The winning ticket was sold at Eastern Liquors, located at 22 Kingston Rd. in Baltimore.
Nearly 60% sold out, the Reese’s scratch-off still has an instant top prize of $20,000 remaining. The $2 ticket also features a second-chance contest with the chance to win $100,000 or $100 worth of Reese’s scratch-off tickets and entry into a grand-prize drawing to receive a trip-for-two to Orioles Spring Training in Sarasota, Florida.
