$30,000 Scratch-off Win Shocks Electrical Company Employee

Silver Spring mom claims top prize on Bag To$$ Bucks game

Claiming a big Maryland Lottery scratch-off prize for the first time zapped a Silver Spring electrical company employee right out of her routine.

Her entire family plays instant tickets and is accustomed to winning small prizes. But this lucky lady discovered that the $3 Bag To$$ Bucks scratch-off she bought at the Rodman’s Discount Store in Silver Spring was a $30,000 winner! The news both shocked and energized the administrative assistant.

“We always buy random scratch-offs,” she said. “The whole family does it, whoever has a few dollars to spare buys them.”

On the day last week when she crossed paths with Lottery luck, the 35-year-old bought three games and took them home to play.

“I didn’t understand the [Bag To$$ Bucks] game at first,” she said. “My son, who is 11, said, ‘Let me see… I think you won! So, I showed my dad. He said, ‘I think you won, too!’ We were in shock!”

The family returned to the Lottery retailer and a clerk confirmed her big win. Over the weekend, she hid the lucky ticket in her purse until she could claim her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The happy mother of three plans to pay off family debts with the prize and may take a family vacation. She won the second of eight $30,000 top prizes on Bag To$$ Bucks, and in addition to the remaining six top prizes, there are thousands more prizes ranging from $3 to $1,000.

Her lucky retailer located at 4301 Randolph Road earns a $300 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize ticket in the game. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
