Temple Hills Retiree Wins $250,000 Top Prize
Fifty-three Maryland Lottery players will soon have some extra money in their pockets. The Medal Madness drawing took place this week and 53 winners were selected from more than 61,000 entries. One winner was selected for each of the following prizes: $250,000, $50,000 and $25,000. An additional 50 winners will take home $1,000 each.
Emerald Blue of Temple Hills claimed the $250,000 grand prize. The 82-year-old and his family made the trip to Lottery headquarters yesterday. Although the Prince George’s County retiree is no stranger to winning, he never imagined he would win a prize this large.
“He is the luckiest man I know,” his son told Lottery officials. “We are so happy for him.”
Ulysses Eure Jr. of Windsor Mill claimed the $50,000 prize. He plans to use some of his winnings to move back to his North Carolina hometown in the future. Donna Price of Glen Burnie, who won $25,000, plans to use some of her prize to pay for her rising gas and electric bills.
The Medal Madness promotion ran from Jan. 20 through Feb. 23, 2014. Players randomly received the words Gold, Silver and Bronze on their tickets and collected all three on non-winning tickets to enter the contest.
