Baltimore player ceases play after cold streak and finds red-hot win when she returns
A loyal Maryland Lottery player for decades, Baltimore resident “Sis” is no stranger to winning. Hitting for the $50,000 top prize in the Oct. 10 Bonus Match 5 drawing, however, is by far her biggest win to date.
Her big Lottery payday almost didn’t happen. “Sis” endured a cold streak playing Bonus Match 5 and switched to only playing the evening Pick 3 and Pick 4 games. Two days before the Oct. 10 drawing, the 80-year-old got back into a Bonus Match 5 groove and scored her $50,000 win on a $2 quick-pick ticket.
Her past top prize was $2,500 on a boxed Pick 4 game. “Sis” reports getting a lot of entertainment from playing scratch-offs, too, especially the bingo- and crossword-themed games. “Scratch-offs! That’s my favorite,” she said, explaining that instant tickets appeal to her because she can play them at her own pace.
“Sis” plans to use her winnings to pay for some home repairs and to catch up on bills. Also, a crab feast is in the planning stages, she said on Oct. 15 after claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
Getting Lottery lucky along with “Sis” is the Dollar Shop V & Outlet at 4442 Park Heights Avenue in Baltimore’s Pikesville neighborhood where she bought the winning game. The store earns a bonus of $500 from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket. This is the 36th $50,000 winning Bonus Match 5 ticket sold in 2019.
