$50,000 Powerball Winner Paying It Forward

Anne Arundel County resident will share winnings from Aug. 9 drawing

An Odenton jackpot chaser who plays Mega Millions and Powerball when the jackpots roll past the $300 million mark did just that recently and experienced a store clerk’s error in his favor. He won $50,000!

On Aug. 9, the lucky player went to Weis Markets #70 located at 2294 Bluewater Boulevard in Odenton to purchase tickets. The Powerball jackpot for that night’s drawing had rolled to $307 million while Mega Millions climbed to a $382 million jackpot for the Aug. 11 drawing.

“I only asked for one ticket each for one game of Mega Millions and Powerball,” said the lucky winner. “The cashier gave me two games on each ticket. I am grateful she did as the second game on my Powerball ticket was the winning one.”

The Anne Arundel County resident was so excited about his win he made a 4:30 a.m. phone call to share his good news. The 27-year-old player and his wife plan to pay their win forward.

“We feel blessed to have won and we will pay it forward to Shriners Hospitals for Children, which is very near and dear to our hearts,” he said. “They have done amazing work and we are grateful for how they have touched our lives. We will also use some of our winnings to purchase our home in the near future.”
