Gold Bar Bingo prize just one of the things Lottery winner is thankful for
For most people, the chaos of moving, international travel, or having a baby are all stressful enough to do separately. But for 30-year-old Jorge Villela, who recently relocated from Virginia to Maryland, it may have been the lucky combination leading him to a $50,000 Lottery prize.
Originally from Guatemala, Jorge has family there and in the Washington, D.C., area. He was recently in Guatemala for the birth of his second child and had just returned the United States when Lottery luck struck.
Just a few days after returning to the United States and five days after his own birthday, Jorge won a $50,000 top prize on a $5 Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off.
He scratched a Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off, revealing an ‘X’ pattern on the final bingo card on his ticket, which delivered the $50,000 win. Overcome by emotion, Jorge quickly FacedTimed his mother to share the happy result.
“She’s happy whenever one of us has any kind of success,” he said.
A roofer by trade, Jorge is now dealing with a seasonal work slow-downs while also relocating to a new home in Hyattsville. Jorge said he is thankful for his timely win and says the funds will be helpful until work resumes.
The Gold Bar Bingo ticket launched in December 2018, and just one of its $50,000 top prizes remains unclaimed, along with three unclaimed second-tier prizes of $10,000 and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
Jorge bought his lucky ticket at the 7-Eleven store located at 9254 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring. For selling the top-prize winning scratch-off, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
