$50,000 Scratch-off Prize Helps Mechanic Repair His Win Record

Aberdeen’s David Bowman celebrates his $50,000 win playing the Winning Streak game.

Will clear debts with top prize from Winning Streak game

Scratch-off fan David Bowman, a Harford County mechanic, won big on a short trip to Aberdeen Sunoco.

The $5 Winning Streak game, which has over $14 million in cash prizes, caught his eye that day and gave the 39-year-old a $50,000 top prize that repairs his win record.

“I went to get some gas and decided to play a couple of scratch-offs,” David said. “I bought a couple of instant tickets, scratched off the last one, and saw that I was a winner! I handed the ticket back to the cashier just to be sure and she confirmed that I won $50,000.”

The owner of Bowman’s Automotive in Havre De Grace, David put the winning scratch-off in his pocket and left the Aberdeen gas station. He came to Maryland Lottery headquarters the next day to claim his prize.

“I plan on using the money to pay off some debt and to make final payments on my recently deceased father’s estate,” David said. “It’s been a tough couple of months but winning this money will be a huge help.”

A few years ago, said the Aberdeen businessman, he had some luck with $1 instant tickets but had not won a prize recently.

“I won $50 a few times and $500 once, but nothing like this,” he said. “This is my first time buying a ticket higher than $1, so this is amazing. After being told I won, I went home and thought about going back to the Sunoco and buying the entire roll of tickets just to see if I could win again!”

Aberdeen Sunoco at 607 S. Philadelphia Blvd. in Harford County also has reason to celebrate. Selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off means the Aberdeen business earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The $5 Winning Streak game, which debuted last month, has six more $50,000 top prizes awaiting discovery.
