The Hunters of Gaithersburg are celebrating a top-prize win and their 50th wedding anniversary.
Carolyn and Charles Hunter win top prize on Deluxe Crossword game
Six months ago, Carolyn Hunter of Gaithersburg was convinced that she would land a major Maryland Lottery win and that the lucky scratch-off would come from a Shell gas station where she frequently buys Lottery games.
In fact, her husband Charles got an earful from Carolyn any time he failed to buy an instant ticket from Airpark Shell in Gaithersburg. It turns out that Carolyn was right! Now they are celebrating a $50,000 top-prize win on a Deluxe Crossword 6th Edition scratch-off.
On the day of her big win, the lucky lady bought four scratch-offs to play while babysitting. Carolyn saw that she had matched a few words on the lucky $5 Deluxe Crossword game but almost missed her top-prize win. It wasn’t until she called her son and checked the instant ticket that she learned that her Lottery-winning prophecy had come true.
“Oh my gosh, it’s $50,000!” Carolyn recalls saying after her shocking discovery. Charles had the same reaction when he learned of her great news.
What makes this win so special for the Hunters is that it comes at the same time as their 50th wedding anniversary. The happy pair recently retired from Montgomery County Public Schools after working there 38 years. They plan to use their prize for home improvements and fun in the sun in Ocean City.
For selling the top-prize winning scratch-off, the Montgomery County retailer located at 7620 Lindbergh Drive earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery. This sixth edition of the game went on sale June 21 and has seven top prizes remaining along with 15 $10,000 prizes.
