Holiday game gives player second $50,000 prize
After a big $50,000 DEAL OR NO DEAL™ scratch-off win this fall, a Carroll County teacher has hit it big again! This time, the Mt. Airy resident known as “The Advocate” to her community won another $50,000 prize playing the Maryland Lottery’s $5 Holiday Gold scratch-off.
Although she usually plays $5 crossword games, the 64-year-old decided to try her luck with the new Holiday Gold scratch-off because she liked the look of the instant ticket.
“Because it was a newly launched ticket, I knew most of the prizes were still available in the game,” said “The Advocate.” “I bought two tickets and sat in the car and scratched them. The first one was a non-winner, but the second one made me shout for joy.”
The 22-year special education teaching veteran won by scratching a box that revealed the candy cane symbol, making her the winner of the game’s top prize. How sweet is this win? “The Advocate” said this prize helps her move forward with her two community projects.
“I plan on using this money to continue taking care of my 90-year-old family members and start a business with a focus on elder care for seniors with impairments,” she said. “It’s going to be needed in the near future.”
“The Advocate” plans to teach for several more years before she retires but is sure she will never stop helping people. In September, she announced plans to use that $50,000 prize as seed money for the elder-care project and a venture aimed at providing student-tutoring resources in her community.
Her Lottery retailer can also celebrate. In addition to selling the first $50,000 prize on the Lottery’s Holiday Gold scratch-off, Little George’s Convenience Store located at 1709 Old Liberty Road in Westminster will also earn a $500 retailer bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is for selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game.
