258-$5-Monopoly-ITVMWaiting at the laundromat for your garments to tumble dry can be agonizingly dull, unless you follow a Westminster man’s example. He passed the time playing a winning Maryland Lottery scratch-off!

The groundskeeper discovered the $50,000 top prize on a winning Monopoly scratch-off that turned a routine laundry day for his family into a celebration! The timing of his $5 scratch-off purchase at Victory 1 Convenience & Deli in Westminster was perfect. Although laundry day is a weekly chore, the winner only plays Lottery scratch-offs from time to time and just happened to pick out a winning instant ticket.

The 30-year-old began to feel like he was in the spin cycle as he scratched off a match to one of the Monopoly numbers on his game. The newlywed didn’t stop to figure out the size of his prize but rushed home after collecting his family and his wash. Only then did the Carroll County resident determine that he was the first top-prize winner in the game.

“I was excited,” he said. “I still can’t believe that I won!”

The lucky player immigrated to the United States from El Salvador nearly a decade ago and helps beautify northern Maryland counties with gardens and greenery. Married only a year, the happy winner said he will use his Lottery greenery to purchase a used car and boost his family’s savings.

He found his Lottery luck at the Carroll County retailer, which is located at 270 East Green Street. For selling a top-prize instant ticket in the Monopoly game, Victory 1 Convenience & Deli will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The Monopoly family of scratch-off games on sale around the state includes a $20, $10, $5, $2 and $1 game. There are still four more $50,000 top prizes awaiting discovery in the $5 game along with seven $5,000 prizes.
