Prince George’s County resident wins big on Holiday Gold scratch-off.
A Hyattsville man’s luck with a Holiday Gold scratch-off may bring a holiday reunion for family separated not just by rivers and woods, but also by distance and borders. A welder from Prince George’s County detailed his story when he claimed a $50,000 top prize on the $5 scratch-off earlier this week.
The 60-year-old, trying his luck with one of the Maryland Lottery’s holiday scratch-off games, purchased a blue Holiday Gold instant ticket this week from a Hyattsville retailer. Soon after he started scratching off the game, the loyal player found success. One of the winning numbers on the game matched the player’s number, which delivered a $50,000 top prize.
The lucky winner’s eyes grew wider as he described how he felt the moment he won his largest prize ever. “It’s really good feeling,” he said.
The lucky player came to the United States by way of Colombia more than 20 years ago. Although successful there in his trade, he left many family members behind to look for work and a better way of life in the United States. He plans to use his Lottery windfall to reunite with his family later this year.
