Galena Mini Market in Kent County is site of top-prize win
Was this a daydream? That’s what a lucky Kent County woman wondered after she scratched off her Yahtzee instant ticket.
There it was: five numbers in sequence – a straight – followed by nine more straights, each good for a $5,000 payout. Her scratch-off was indeed a $50,000 top-prize winner!
The 52-year-old, who works in education, was commuting when she bought the lucky scratch-off at Galena Mini Market in Galena. She scratched the instant ticket off in the store and, seeing the bewildering result, hurried home to examine it closer with her husband.
Even though they correctly determined the instant ticket’s total payout, the couple remained dubious the day after the big win. “It felt like it was just a dream that we had,” the winner said.
She explained that the top prize enters their lives at a great time.
“I had made it a goal to not have debt going into the new year, but the outlook for that dream was becoming more and more bleak as the end of the year approached,” she said. Now, with the prize from her Lottery luck, achieving that goal is more likely.
The $5 Yahtzee scratch-off launched in August and features prizes ranging from $5 to $50,000. There are five $50,000 top prizes remaining along with thousands of others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
Her Lottery retailer also benefits from her win. For selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game, the store located at 101 N. Main Street earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
