Triple 6’s equal player payday
Think 666 is unlucky? Think again! Thanks to the 6-6-6 result of the Thursday, Sept. 5, evening Pick 3 drawing, thousands of Maryland Lottery players are all smiles about winning loads of cash.
That Pick 3 drawing paid out more than $1.4 million to happy players.
According to Lottery officials, big payouts are common in Pick 3 and Pick 4 games when triples and quadruples are drawn. On Saturday, Aug. 31, the midday Pick 4 result of 2-2-2-2 paid out almost $5.5 million to players.
“Lottery players are a superstitious bunch,” said Carole Everett, director of communications at the Maryland Lottery. “They love to play patterns of numbers and dates of special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries.”
Although not an everyday occurrence, triples and quadruples do pop up in Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings. In the last 35 years, for example, 6-6-6 popped up in evening Pick 3 drawings 14 times. This is its first occurrence in an evening Pick 3 drawing in Maryland since 2010. The triples 2-2-2 and 9-9-9, by comparison, have occurred only 18 times and 16 times, respectively, in the evening Pick 3 drawing in nearly three decades of play.
