A Belated Valentine’s and Birthday Gift

Married Couple Wins $50,000 Playing Money Surplus Scratch-Off

Donna Forney - Money Surplus“That ticket was burning a hole in my pocket,” said Donald Forney from Calvert County. He was referring to the $50,000 winning Money Surplus ticket he and his wife bought the day after Valentine’s Day. “What a great gift for my wife,” he said, smiling.

In addition to Valentine’s Day, Donna Forney just had a birthday on February 6th. “This just adds to those two special days,” she said.

Donald purchased the ticket and two others on Monday and scratched them in the store. Immediately he knew he had a big winner. “I nonchalantly left the store and headed home to tell Donna,” laughed the Food Surplus Warehouse employee. “I told her I had some exciting news and then jokingly told her I carried the laundry upstairs for her.” Donna was not impressed and then he sprung the real news, how he had a $50,000 winning scratch-off ticket.

“I didn’t believe it at all,” said the Calvert Memorial Hospital employee. “I guess it will sink in when the money is in our bank account.”

The couple has a grown son and a 6-year-old grand-daughter that live in Texas. They have not shared the win with them yet, but said they will send them some money. They would also like to put a down payment on a new home.

The winning ticket was purchased at CJ’s Food Store, located at 12020 Rousby Hall Rd. in Lusby.
