Four Players Win $50,000 Prize
The first of four Bonus Match 5 players who correctly matched last night’s winning numbers visited the Lottery’s claim center this morning to collect a check for $50,000. The winner, a 76-year-old retired “domestic engineer” from the Greektown neighborhood of Baltimore, was still a little dubious about the events of the last 15 hours, not quite believing it was all really happening.
“Bonus Match 5 is my favorite game and I’ve had some luck in the past – nothing like this, however,” today’s winner told officials. “When I wrote down the winning numbers last night I had no idea what was going to happen.” Not trusting her eyes, she woke up her husband to verify the matching numbers she saw on her ticket but didn’t believe could be real.
With the paperwork complete and everything finalized, the lucky East Baltimore resident’s mind went immediately to what she and her husband would now be able to do. “On a fixed-income there are some things you can do and many, many things you can’t. Now, our can-do list has gotten a little bigger.”
Last night’s $50,000 win in Greektown wasn’t Baltimore’s only Bonus Match 5 success, one other player matched all the winning numbers. Two other players in Maryland did as well, one in Columbia and the other in Conowingo.
Bonus Match 5 is a numbers game with drawings seven evenings a week. The Lottery selects five winning numbers ranging from 1 to 39. A bonus ball will then be drawn from the remaining 34 numbers. The bonus ball provides players with extra chances to win.
The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-11 at 7201 East Baltimore Street.
