Dunkirk Woman Wins $250,000 Second-Tier Prize

There were two winning $250,000 second-tier tickets sold for last Friday’s Mega Millions drawing and 78-year-old Ursula Padgett had one of them. On top of that, her ticket was free, thanks to the Medal Madness promotion.

The retired Anne Arundel County School System employee seemed a bit shaken up telling Lottery Officials her story. Ursula was purchasing her regular Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets, while doing some grocery shopping, when she received a $5 free play voucher.  Although she doesn’t normally play Mega Millions, she decided to use this voucher for Mega Millions tickets.

The lucky player checked her ticket the next day after receiving a print out of the numbers. “I was a bit nervous when I saw all the matching numbers,” she said. “Even more nervous, though, when I saw the Mega Ball was off by one number.” If she had matched the Mega Ball, she would have won the jackpot. “I am still so very grateful.”

Ursula was accompanied by to Lottery headquarters by her daughter, Dana. “My mom is so sweet. This could not have happened to a better person,” said Dana. Ursula said she will use her winnings towards some bills and to fix her car. But, other than that, she said she doesn’t know exactly what she’ll do with the rest. The winning ticket was purchased at Shady Side Market, located at 1481 Snug Harbor in Shady Side.
