A Port Deposit Man Deposits $10,000 Lottery Prize into Family Coffers

Found good fortune playing a 10x Cash scratch-off

Changing his strategy certainly paid off for the 70-year-old, who just claimed the $10,000 top prize on the Lottery’s 10x Cash scratch-off. The retired machinist told Lottery officials that he decided to purchase the last three tickets in the book of 10x Cash scratch-offs from Craigtown Market at 712 Craigtown Road in Port Deposit. The Cecil County man has done this often.

“There were times when I’ve won $50 here and there with this strategy,” he said. This time, however, his strategy failed but our determined winner played on. “What was different was that I asked the clerk if I could buy the first ticket on the next book of 10x Cash (scratch-offs).”

As he began scratching his $10 ticket, the happy man said the first thing he revealed was a $1,000 prize and then another $1,000 prize.

“Without even scratching anymore, I knew I was a big $10,000 winner!” he said. “I really could not believe it at first that I had won that much money playing a scratch-off. It certainly is shocking when it happens.”

Asked what he wants to do with his newfound fortune, the lucky player jokingly said his wife will be the one very happily spending it. “We’ll probably take a trip to the beach or the mountains or both,” he said. “Besides that, we’ll pay off my wife’s car and pay a few bills and save what’s left.”

There are 18 top-tier $10,000 prizes and six more $1,000 prizes remaining on the 10x Cash instant ticket, which launched in March.
