Gaithersburg Man Wins 250,000 Mega Millions Prize
A 35-year-old man won a Mega Millions second-tier prize after deciding change up his routine and not play his regular numbers. Instead, he made the decision to purchase a Quick Pick ticket. That split-second decision quickly turned into a $250,000 Mega Millions win.
The Gaithersburg man was stunned when his ticket showed five-out-of-six winning numbers when he checked his numbers at the store the next day. “I immediately started to jump and scream after realizing I actually had a winning ticket” said the lucky winner. As people stood and watched the man celebrate his win, the store owner advised the man to go home to think about what he was going to do with his new fortune.
After calling his sister to share the news of the big win, the man was faced with the task of where to hide the ticket until he could bring it in to Lottery headquarters. He first tried putting the ticket inside of a thick book, but later decided it wasn’t a safe place as he could easily lose it between the pages. He then took the lucky ticket and hid it in his tool box. The ticket eventually ended up inside of a new oil filter.
He plans to use the money to pay off bills and start college funds for his nephews and nieces. The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11 located at 15821 Frederick Road in Rockville.
