Hampstead Man Wins $30,000 Fruit Twist Crossword Top Prize
Barry Naylor is a creature of habit. Every Saturday and Sunday morning he drives to a local store, buys coffee and scratch-off tickets before heading to his “man cave” at home. Once settled, Barry scratches his tickets and catches up on television with his cat named Punk. This past weekend, something very out of the ordinary happened to Barry; he won $30,000 from the Maryland Lottery’s Fruit Twist Crossword scratch-off.
Barry, who took the day off from his Carroll County government job to come into Lottery Headquarters, said that scratch-offs are one of his ‘things.’ “I love Harley Davidson motorcycles, hanging out with my sons, classic rock and my scratch-off tickets” the 59-year-old told Lottery officials. The lucky winner has had some Lottery luck in the past; he won two $10,000 prizes last year.
The recently widowed man confided one wish to Lottery officials: “I wish my wife was here to celebrate with me.” He continued, “She always bought my scratch-offs for me and she would have been so excited.” Barry plans to put all of his winnings into an IRA and will continue his regular Lottery play. The winning ticket was purchased at Piper’s Wine & Spirits, located at 4127 Hanover Pike in Manchester .
