Aberdeen Powerball Player Picks up $10,000 Prize

Happy retiree claims win from Dec. 27 drawing

A loyal Maryland Lottery Powerball player closed out the last Saturday drawing of 2014 with a $10,000 win in his favorite game.

The happy Aberdeen man brought his Pinochle-playing pal to Lottery Headquarters to claim his prize and accompany him into the Winner’s Lounge. The 67-year-old was the only Maryland winner at the $10,000 level for the drawing and one of 40 $10,000 winners around the country.

The retiree plays Powerball regularly and stopped in at Wine World in Abingdon that Saturday to buy a quick-pick ticket for the evening drawing. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, the winner is the father of one and grandpa of two and a member of his local American Legion.

Wine World was home to a $108.8 million Powerball winner in September 2011 and a $250,000 second-tier Mega Millions winner in February 2012. Want to visit his lucky Harford County Lottery retailer? Wine World is located at 406-A Constant Friendship Boulevard in Abingdon.
