William Daniels Jr. of Essex found his $100,000 touchdown on a Ravens scratch-off!
Baltimore man claims game’s top prize on Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th may frighten some, but not William Daniels Jr. The 24-year-old bucked the day’s bad luck mindset with a $100,000 top-prize win on a Maryland Lottery Ravens scratch-off.
The Essex resident spends his days at Middle River Aircraft, assembling thrust reversers destined for commercial jets. On Friday afternoon, after completing his shift, William stopped by the Tempo Lounge in Essex to cash a $50 winning Ravens scratch-off. He celebrated by purchasing two additional Ravens scratch-offs.
He waited until he arrived home to scratch the instant tickets. The first one carried no prize. When he matched the number 27 above a $100,000 prize amount on his second $5 ticket, William began to get nervous.
“I had a knot in my stomach,” he said. To quell his nervousness, the loyal player handed his instant ticket to his mother to confirm his win. Only then did he share the news of his sudden luck with other family members and his girlfriend. Prior to this win, his biggest prize was $500. “Now I can afford a good haircut,” he said, joking.
The lucky winner plans to use his prize to put a down payment on a house and add to his savings. He also plans to pay back funds loaned by his parents. The good luck from his purchase extends to the Tempo Lounge located at 402 Back River Neck Road in Essex. The Lottery will give the retailer a $1,000 bonus for selling the $100,000 top-prize ticket.
The popular Ravens scratch-off still has plenty of prizes remaining as well as two more drawings for prizes in its second-chance contest. Visit mdlottery.com/ravens for details on how to enter the Dec. 14 and Jan. 18 drawings to become a finalist for season tickets for 20 years and receive $10,000 cash, win $50,000 and $10,000 cash prizes, 2016 season tickets and game-day family four-packs.
