Annapolis Construction Worker Claims $40,000 VaxCash Prize

Celso Morales Salinas, a construction worker from Annapolis, was the June 18 winner in the $2 Million VaxCash Promotion.

Anne Arundel County man wins just days after receiving second vaccine dose

An Anne Arundel County man is the latest winner to claim a $40,000 prize in the $2 Million VaxCash Promotion. Annapolis resident Celso Morales Salinas, selected in the June 18 drawing, became eligible after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination just weeks ago.

The 36-year-old works for an area construction company, pouring concrete for patios, houses, and sidewalks. One recently completed project was at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie.

Salinas said he was the last member of his family to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Initially reluctant, he became more confident with the idea of getting vaccinated after talking with his co-workers.

“I was unsure about potential side-effects, but talking with co-workers was reassuring,” said Salinas.

With that reassurance and a bit more encouragement from his mother, Salinas said he registered for an appointment. Just days after receiving his second dose of the vaccine, Maryland Department of Health officials called him with the news that he had been selected as a $40,000 winner in the VaxCash Promotion.

Salinas said the $40,000 prize will be helpful both for him and his family.

The VaxCash Promotion, announced by Governor Larry Hogan on May 20, is a collaboration of the Maryland Lottery and the Maryland Department of Health, aimed at incentivizing Marylanders who have not yet received their COVID-19 vaccinations while rewarding those who have. All Maryland residents 18 and older who have received a COVID-19 shot at a non-Federal facility in Maryland at any time are automatically entered into daily drawings being held from May 25 through July 4.

Each day through July 3, one winner will receive a $40,000 prize, and the promotion culminates on the Fourth of July when one winner will receive a $400,000 prize.
