Claims top prize in Aug. 13 Bonus Match 5 drawing
A loyal Maryland Lottery player who just added Bonus Match 5 to her game repertoire a year ago hit the big time with a $2 quick-pick ticket. She won a $50,000 top prize in the Aug. 13 drawing.
The lucky Annapolis woman reports that this prize far surpasses her previous record win of $30 in the daily game. She also plays Powerball and scratch-offs, which is what brought her into Pantry 1 Food Mart in Annapolis on the day she found her fortune. The married mother of one went there to cash in her $10 worth of winning scratch-offs. The clerk asked if she wanted her prize in cash or more games. “I said to give me five $2 Bonus Match 5 tickets,” she said.
She checked her tickets shortly after that night’s drawing to see if she’d had any luck. On one ticket, she won $15. On a second ticket, she won a whole lot more!
“I had the first number, and the second number and I saw the third number and I said, ‘I won $15!’” she recalls. “Then, I saw I had the fourth number and then the fifth.”
She scanned her lucky ticket on her phone using the Maryland Lottery app and confirmed her big win. “I started getting very happy!” said the 60-year-old.
The winner plans to keep her good news a secret and put the money into savings.
Her lucky Lottery retailer, Pantry 1 Food Mart, also shares in the win. The store located at 1090 Spa Road in Annapolis earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the game.
