Annapolis Retiree Switches Games, Finds Lottery Luck

Captures $50,000 top prize playing Bonus Match 5

An avid Bonus Match 5 fan who temporarily switched to playing Pick 3 and Pick 4 decided to seek Lottery luck by going back to his favorite daily game. His strategy worked!

The Annapolis retiree won the $50,000 top prize in the Nov. 22 drawing.

“I came back and played Bonus Match 5 for three days and I hit,” he said. “I didn’t believe it when I checked my ticket.”

The 72-year-old bought his lucky $6 ticket at the 7-Eleven store located at 980 Bay Ridge Road in Annapolis. He played several of his sets of personal lucky numbers. Later, the longtime Lottery player was relaxing at home on the couch and decided to check the winning numbers for that night’s drawing.

“They look like my numbers,” he remembers thinking to himself. To be certain the top prize was truly his, the dubious winner phoned Maryland Lottery headquarters and confirmed his big win.

The Anne Arundel County resident plans to spend some of his prize on home improvements, will buy a new car and put the remainder into the bank. The retailer also shares in his Lottery luck. For selling a top-prize-winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, the 7-Eleven store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
