Anne Arundel County Man Claims $50,000 Prize

Lottery Player Wins Gold Rush Doubler Top Prize

Byron Hylton - Gold RushShady Side resident Byron Hylton was following a familiar pattern when he felt the rush of winning a $50,000 top prize. He stopped in to Shady Side Market for a few groceries and a couple scratch-off tickets. He purchased his Gold Rush Doubler scratch-off tickets from Scotty or Skippy, the twins who operate the family-owned market and headed home.

Hylton began scratching the tickets on his way home. When he stopped the car, he would begin scratching. He had just pulled into his driveway when he finished scratching his second ticket and spotted the emblem designating his ticket a $50,000 winner.

“I didn’t have anyone to tell,” he said. “Nobody was home.” Hylton showed the ticket to a neighbor and then called his wife. “I said ‘You have to come home. You won’t believe it. I’m shaking,’” he told Lottery officials.

Hylton says he will use the winnings to pay bills and purchase a new computer for the kids. “This makes for a good summer,” he added. The winning ticket was purchased at Shady Side Market on Snug Harbor Road in Shady Side. There are four $50,000 top-prizes remaining on the $5 Gold Rush Doubler scratch-off ticket.
