186-Big-Play-Crossword-ITVM_P2-blueNew digs and a car repair are in the works for an Anne Arundel County woman who found 100,000 answers to her prayers through a winning Maryland Lottery scratch-off.

Emma Williams of Severn is jubilant about capturing the first of the six $100,000 top prizes on the Big Play Crossword scratch-off. Her win gives her the financial ability to purchase a home of her own and repair her daughter’s car, which is her main source of transportation. What makes her win even more amazing is the fact that this grandmother very seldom plays Lottery games.

“I only play when I get the urge,” she said.

One rainy Sunday afternoon found Emma and her daughter at the Wawa in Gambrills to buy gas. While thinking about the Lottery scratch-offs that launched in late December, Emma gave in to that urge to “Let Yourself Play.” She gave her daughter the money to go into the store to purchase instant tickets. Knowing that Emma has an affinity for crossword scratch-offs, her daughter bought a $10 Big Play Crossword and a second crossword scratch-off.

The 67-year-old decided to scratch the tickets while in the car. Her immediate reaction was one of calm and collected thankfulness. Fearful of losing her winning ticket, Emma gave it to her daughter to keep in her purse until our winner could claim her prize. For selling the top-prize scratch-off, the Wawa at 701 Annapolis Road in Gambrills will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
